ISSUANCE AND RENEWAL OF INDIAN STATUS CERTIFICATES

PROCEDURE

As of December 17, 2014, under a directive from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), Indian Registry Administrators are no longer authorized to issue or renew Certificates of Indian Status (CIS) by mail. CSI must be issued in person only.

In Odanak, this service is provided by the person in charge of the registrar. You must make an appointment with her by calling 450 568-2810. However, the ISCs issued in Odanak are issued for an emergency only. From now on, you will need to apply for a SCIS (Secure Certificate of Indian Status) issued at ISC offices. It is necessary to calculate a minimum of 12 weeks before obtaining your SCIS.

If you need assistance to complete or revise your application for obtaining a SCIS, please contact the person in charge of the registrar in Odanak at 450 568-2810.
